Etymology

From Latin trecentōs, accusative case of trecentī. In modern Catalan, replaced by tres-cents (three hundred), a compound of tres (three) +‎ cents (hundreds). Cf. the replacement of Old Catalan doents (two hundred) with modern dos-cents.
