Ultimately from a palatalised variant Proto-Slavic *trǫsъ (“shaking”) (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?), whence also Belarusian трусь (trusʹ). Cognates include Kashubian trus (“rabbit”), Belarusian трус (trus, “rabbit; earthquake”) and Russian трус (trus, “coward; earthquake”). Doublet of trząs (“shake, wobble”).
