Possibly borrowed from Malay turut (“following suit”), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *tuʀut (“to follow instructions, follow an example; carry along, give in, allow something to happen”). Compare Kapampangan tulut (“to allow; to concede”), Bikol Central tugot (“to allow; to permit”), Cebuano tugot (“to approve; to yield”), and Hiligaynon tugut (“permission”).
