Usage notes
While the usage of this adverb is acceptable, a structure using väittää (“to allege”) as a verb is generally preferred, unless doing so makes the sentence structure significantly more complicated.
- Hän on väitetysti rikkonut lakia. → Hänen väitetään rikkoneen lakia.
- He has allegedly broken the law. → He is alleged to have broken the law.
