vathë
Albanian
Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *au̯aϑā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wes- (“to dwell, abide, pass/stay the night”). Cognate to Sanskrit वास (vāsá-, “sojourn, stay, spending the night”), प्रौष्ठ (próṣṭha-, “lodging”).[1] Alternatively from an unattested *vartë, from Proto-Albanian *wartā, close to Tocharian B wärto (“garten”), Irish fert (“grave mound”), Old English weorð (“yard”).[2]
