1. (mathematics) a function mapping a subset of ${\displaystyle \mathbb {R} ^{n}}$ into a subset of ${\displaystyle \mathbb {R} ^{n}}$
2. (differential geometry) a function which associates, to each point on a surface, a vector in the tangent plane of that point
