wupyan

Old Prussian

Etymology

From earlier West-Baltic *upjan, derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic *upē, *apē (river), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂op- (body of water). Prepended with w- via analogy with woble and wundan. From the same root as Lithuanian upė, Latvian upe, Latgalian upe, all of them meaning “river”.
