Issues with stringWithFormat:@"%02dd.%02dh.%02dm.%02ds"

Question

I would like to format a date and time like this:

07-22-2014 08:30am

I will appreciate all the help I can get on this.

    NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
    [dateFormatter setDateFormat:format];
    NSCalendar *gregorian = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier:NSGregorianCalendar];
    NSDate *endDate = [dateFormatter dateFromString:parseDate];
    NSDateComponents *comps = [gregorian components:NSDayCalendarUnit | NSHourCalendarUnit | NSMinuteCalendarUnit | NSSecondCalendarUnit fromDate:[NSDate date] toDate:endDate options:0];

    if ([comps day] > 0) {

OKAY... I added the EN-POSIX

[dateFormatter setLocale:[[NSLocale alloc] initWithLocaleIdentifier:@"en_US_POSIX"]];

and I am able to select am/pm with no issue. BUT, I am still struggling with the displaying the date and time as described above.

This is the final part of the issues with date(am/pm) for me.

The above will format like "10d.08h.30m.45s", because that's the format you're asking for. Using NSDateFormatter would be simpler. — Hot Licks, Jul 22 '14 at 16:04

     NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
      [formatter setDateFormat:@"mm-dd-yyyy hh:mm a"];
       NSLog(@"Current Date: %@", [formatter stringFromDate:date1]);

Use this format to print your date

I did that, but when I switched from 24hr to 12hr on the device it still displays the 24hr values. – senimii Jul 22 '14 at 15:58

And you need to use the special locale of "en_US_POSIX" to avoid the 24/12 hour issue. – rmaddy Jul 22 '14 at 16:05
