Custom color in navigation drawer in Android

Question

I'm developing an Android application, I have to customize a navigation drawer, this is the code that i use :

This is he drawer layout:

This is the java code:

    DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
    toggle = new ActionBarDrawerToggle(this, drawer, toolbar, R.string.navigation_drawer_open, R.string.navigation_drawer_close);
    drawer.setDrawerListener(toggle);
    toggle.syncState();

    NavigationView navigationView = (NavigationView) findViewById(R.id.nav_view);
    navigationView.setNavigationItemSelectedListener(this);
    navigationView.setItemIconTintList(null);

I have to customize the navigation drawer, the background of the label must be "gold" the item "white".

How i can do this ?

Secondly, you can use a listview + custom adapter and then add this listview to DrawerLayout instead of defining in XML like that.
