string.split() returns a list.
 user_input = input('Enter Comma Seperated Digits:' ).split(',')
 #Enter Comma Seperated Digits:   1,2,3
 D = [int(x) for x in user_input]
 # This will return a LIST of integers.

 print type(D[0])
