App crashing when converting String to int

Question

Did absolutely nothing but the app is crashing. The app is running when I did not include the conversion part. XMl :

    <EditText
        android:id="@+id/numberInput"
        android:layout_width="63dp"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:ems="10"
        android:inputType="number"
        android:singleLine="true"
        app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
        app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
        app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
        app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />

MainActivity.java :

    int n = Integer.parseInt(s);

You're already taking `number` then why do you want conversion ? `android:inputType="number"` — M D, Mar 22 '19 at 10:48
You are getting exception because **`the value of your EditText is empty`** you need to check that the value of your edittext is not empty like this **`if (!TextUtils,isEmpty(s)){ int n = Integer.parseInt(s); }`** — AskNilesh, Mar 22 '19 at 10:50
String s = numberInput.getText().toString(); This line is causing issue. In Activity Oncreate edittext value will be null. Check. — Febi M Felix, Mar 22 '19 at 10:50

Try to check string before casting and return 0 if string is empty.

int n = s.isEmpty()?0:Integer.parseInt(s);
