Button is adjusting to it's container and can't make it smaller

Question

I want to make the button smaller, specially vertically, but I can't, I think it is because it's adjusting to the parent and the font size.

Here is an example recreating my problem

    flex-direction: row;

     display: flex;
}

How can I do this?

Because display: flex has align-items: stretch as default.

Add align-items:center to .flex or align-self: center to button
