I got a message notification from Firefox, but it wasn't on the screen for long. I'd like to read what it said again. How do I view previous notifications?

As of 2025/02/05 Firefox still does not support notification history natively. Previous answers recommending plugins that solved this have been deleted as those plugins have all been deleted from the Firefox plugin store.

For installed installations of Firefox:

  1. Windows

If you have the Windows Action Centre activated (accessible via ms-actioncenter:), Firefox shall post notifications to it. These can be viewed until the OS is rebooted, if you do not have it configured to routinely clear itself.

I do not believe that persistence across reboots is possible, nor that any exportation functionality is available natively.

This applies to .exe, .MSI and .MSIX.

  2. Linux-based OSes

This applies to Linux DEs that support the relevant FreeDesktop notification protocols too.

On KDE, this can be enabled via the relevant KCM inside systemsettings. It shall also require a plasmoid that is able to receive them, like that which is included in the default panel layout.

This applies to .Deb, .RPM, flatpak and snap (although issues abound with snapd's messaging portal).

For portable installations of Firefox, bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1854263 may prevent this, especially on Windows.
