For transferring some files from a Linux system to a windows I need to protect the content with good (symmetric) encryption. Also, on the Windows (11) system I can't install extra software and can't rely on self-extracting executables.
What are my options? What kind of encrypted files can Windows decrypt, out of the box?
I know that nowadays windows natively supports extracting zip archives and that there are a few extensions of the original zip format that add encryption. However, it's hard to say what Windows actually supports in that area and whether there is even a zip encryption scheme that is actually good (i.e. not trivially easy to break).
And perhaps there is something better available than zip.
