I am trying to cut a short video clip out of a movie and rendering subtitles into it on command line. In Windows 10, but I am looking for open source tool that works on Linux too. What is the current free, open source, command line, state-of-the-art way to do it? Which tool to use?
PS: I have spent almost an hour trying to make it work using mencoder, which is a tool I used a lot in distant past, but still have trivial issues, which I wouldn't expect from a good software - like the video and audio is totally out of sync, and many other issues. Now I found this page saying that mplayer (i.e. mencoder too) is dead, and most people recommend mpv. I noticed my smplayer application in Win 10 uses mpv too now, instead mplayer! But I don't see any command line interface similar to what mencoder had, to cut and render videos.
