What happens if the CPU supports 128 GB of RAM and the Motherboard supports more? I have 192GB of RAM installed.

I have:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X (supports 128GB according to spec)
    System Information says:
  • RAM: 192 GB (192 GB usable) - in System information

Sysinternals ProcExplorer shows me 192GB RAM as well.

So what is it about the CPU Spec of 128GB RAM max Memory? What is the impact?

Additionally: Because I saw the restrictions I was thinking of upgrading to a Ryzen 9 9xx that supports 192 GB of RAM. But the price for that is quite high and I don't gain much performance and especially don't know if it really changes anything.

The reason I want to utilize this much RAM is that I am running several VMs during development.

So would I gain anything from a CPU upgrade?

On Connectivity Tab is states Max.Memory 128GB

P.S. There are similar questions, but they only guess, and I actually see the RAM in the system information, so the answers don't fit:
