I installed FFmpeg 7.1 using Winget to use it for audio transcription in Python (with tools like whisper and faster-whisper). Right after the installation, my microphone started capturing constant noise, and my camera began flickering across all apps (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
What I’ve tried
- Uninstalled FFmpeg and cleaned residual files Disabled audio
enhancements and reset audio settings - Ran audio and camera troubleshooters
- Reinstalled/updated/rolled back Intel Audio drivers
- Updated Windows fully
- Attempted Windows reset from within settings —did not fix the issue
- Finally, performed a clean reset using a USB bootable drive,which did fix the issue
After the clean reset, everything worked perfectly — until I reinstalled FFmpeg. As soon as I did, the exact same microphone and camera issues returned.
