I have a Dell Precision 5820, a workstation owned by my employer. Running W11 Pro, containing 2 M.2 NVMe drives, connected at 2 of the front bays. The other 2 front SATA drive bays are empty.

I am attempting to add a 2TB 2.5" SSD drive to one of the open SATA bays. I can install it, but when I boot, I get a BSOD:

Stop code DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, What failed: iaStorE.sys.

Going into the BIOS setup, I can see that something (Dell BIOS? Some (Windows?) boot manager?) has changed the startup device in the Windows Boot Manager section from "\Device\HarddiskVolume1..." to a string which references the just-installed SSD, even though it is blank. If I take out the new SSD and reboot, then Windows repairs the boot info itself, and I can get back to my current setup.

I spoke to my company's Helpdesk and they want me to ship the PC to them (I am a remote worker) and have them install it, which may require a complete reimaging of the PC, which of course will wipe out my current files/environment. I told them this would be unacceptable, so I am looking into other options. Suggestions on how to add this SSD and still keep my current boot environment?
