Having an issue getting fast Wi-Fi data transfer with my ASUS G533ZX laptop running Windows 11. These are public locations; Loves Travel Stop, various hotels and motels.
Transfer rate was 2 to 2.5 mps. Heard it might be the card, so upgraded the one the laptop came with to a Wavelink Wifi 6e Intel AX210 Triband 5400Mbps 2.4GHz/5GHz/6GHz Network Adapter. Intel Driver version 23.80.1.3.
This bumped it to 4 to 5 mps.
Problem is my phone and Steam Deck are getting 40 to 60 mps on the same Wi-Fi.
Doesn't happen with lot of other Wi-Fi hotspots, the laptop functions fine at home, 100mps.
Update: Also purchased a Wavelink AX5400 dongle in an attempt to fix this as well as extend range to no avail.
Update: Found the Intel Driver Support app online. DL and installed. 3 out of date including Wi-Fi. So getting those. (Taking forever and three days to get.) That bumped the driver to 23.120.0.3. Had no affect on transfer rate.
Update: Considering that the Steam Deck has no trouble updating games in minutes, whereas the laptop takes hours, it isn't a router site restriction.
Update: With the dongle and the internal card getting the same transfer rate, unlikely it is the internal card slot or other hardware issue. Both drivers card and dongle updated to latest. So assuming this is a Wi-Fi setting issue in the laptop that is forcing or defaulting to a protocol with a lower transfer rate.
The system works fine at home, and with about half the Wifis while traveling. My Steam Deck, tablet, and phone work well on all the Wifis, including the ones the laptop has issues with.
How do I fix this?
