I strictly use Windows and the external hard drive (mechanical) file structure was set as ExFat.
Now it was writing when the power went out. So I ran a chkdsk on it, and a huge number of files have come up saying they are corrupt. Now it did say it could be false readings but the power went out so I don't know. I have since copied all the files over to another drive. I have been reading about file formats and didn't realize I should be using the NTFS format. I didn't know ExFat was subjected to corruption quite often.
So my question is should I just run a quick format? Or will a full format be better, and block out any bad sections that might be written to. It could just be header information that is corrupt and nothing was physically damaged in the drive due to a power out.
I've since bought a UPS so power outages won't worry me anymore. I'm getting the sense that I just run a quick format then run a chkdsk to prevent writing to any bad sectors that may be present.
What is recommended? I started a 12 TB full format about 7 hours ago and it's only showing (it only shows a progressing green bar) but it looks to be about 5% or so.
I'm thinking to quit and just run a quick format.
