Trying to set up a YubiKey as a backup for my Google account in case I lose my phone. Attempting to set up FIDO2 authentication into my Google Account with a FIDO2 key. My key is for my desktop via USB-C. Creating the key on my Chrome Browser gives me the following error

A passkey can’t be created on this device. Make sure your device’s operating system is up to date, your screen lock and Bluetooth are enabled, and that you’re using a supported browser like Chrome.

  • Chrome Version: 136.0.7103.114 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  • Windows Version: 10.0.19045 Build 19045

Verified authentication and YubiKey functionality with webauthn.io.

  • Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Screen lock is enabled.
  • All Chrome extensions are disabled.
  • All Chrome settings have been reset to default.

Chrome will allow my device to create a passkey if and only if Bitwarden is enabled as an extension. Yet the YubiKey is not recognised.

Enable Windows Hello PIN. In Windows, Settings > Accounts > Windows Hello PIN, then set up the Security Key on the same menu
