My machine won't load its nvidia drivers. I've tried a full apt purge *nvidia* and reinstall, along with rebooting a hundred times in the process. At this point, I am consistently in this state:

$ modprobe nvidia
modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia-current not found in directory /lib/modules/6.12.27+bdp-amd64
...

I found one reddit post that suggested purging and reinstalling fixed it for them, but I've had no such luck. Their post includes having apt to output the following lines during reinstallation:

Setting up nvidia-kernel-dkms (535.183.01-1~deb12u1) ... Loading new nvidia-current-535.183.01 DKMS files... Building for 6.1.0-25-patched-bug202425-amd64 Building initial module for 6.1.0-25-patched-bug202425-amd64 Done.

nvidia-current.ko: Running module version sanity check. - Original module - No original module exists within this kernel - Installation - Installing to /lib/modules/6.1.0-25-patched-bug202425-amd64/updates/dkms/ ...

I have no idea how to get apt perform those actions. What detail am I missing?

My apologies, my ability to post full logs here is somewhat limited, since the computer I am working on is kaput. I am happy to provide more details where I can.
