I tryout a number of things in Windows 10 and 11 Virtual Machines using VMWare Workstation on my Windows 11 22H2 host machine.

My Windows 11 Host machine is activated with a Digital License.

However, whenever I create a new VM, I create it completely from scratch. It’s a brand-new VM with a totally random UUID, so it’s always unactivated after installation as there’s no key entered to initiate activation and there’s no digital license.

However yesterday when I created a brand-new Windows 10 Pro VM, it was connected to the internet (Bridged connection, directly connected to router) and after installation it in fact has a digital license and status says activated. I do not use MS account; I created a local user.

I am clueless why it happened this way. All my Windows 10 and 11 ISO files are original ones downloaded from the Microsoft’s official download pages.

Did my Virtual mobo’s UUID fingerprint and other system details matched with someone else’s VM somewhere in the world who already have a digital license on their system?
