Windows 10

I have Windows Live Mail (and no other. No Outlook) installed on my PC. But when I try a mailto link (test@example.com) windows only gives me the option to open it with any of my internet browsers (which is useless):

enter image description here

(its in German but you should still understand).

Trying to change that in the "standard protocol" and " default application" settings brings the same result.

I have tried the following reg-file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto]

@="URL:MailTo Protocol"

"URL Protocol"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command]

@="explorer.exe shell:AppsFolder\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe!microsoft.windowslive.mail"

But that didnt work.

Using

"explorer.exe shell:AppsFolder\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe!microsoft.windowslive.mail"

in windows RUN works and it opens my Windows Mail.

And YES I did restart my PC. Also remember that Windows Live Mail doesn't have an EXE (I think).

Reinstalling Windows Live Mail didn't help either.

I'm going crazy here! Especially since this used to work before I had to reset my PC (unrelated).

Windows Live Mail was discontinued in 2012 (EOS 2017). So, it is unlikely that it will keep on working with newer versions of windows.

Resetting your PC is not unrelated. If you have reinstalled Windows in any way then archaic registry entries may have been removed.

Windows Live Mail

Windows Live Mail (formerly named Windows Live Mail Desktop, code-named Elroy[2]) is a discontinued freeware email client from Microsoft.
