10 Gigabit Ethernet (also called 10 GE, 10 GbE, or 10 GigE).

10 Gigabit Ethernet is defined in the IEEE 802.3ae-2002 standard. It allows for 10 Gbit Ethernet full duplex links over copper or fibre.

To use 10 GbE one usually needs a transceiver. This is a small device which plugs into the 10 GbE port and offers an interface to optical cables. For those not wishing (or able to afford) fibre there also exist copper cables with transceiver at the end.
