DDR2 SDRAM or DDR2 is an evolution of the old standard DDR SDRAM. The new technology came with the promise of increased performance, lower power consumption and heat, increase the density and minimize electromagnetic interference (noise). Modules are expected to 4GB of memory.

DDR2 SDRAM stands for Double Data Rate 2 Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. Dual Inline Memory Module means that the modules are contacts by their sides, in contrast to the old SIMM (Single Inline Memory Module). Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory means that the random access memory has synchronous and dynamic.

The sync word is used to indicate that the processor and memory clocks are coincident, which increases the performance compared to the older technology. The thermodynamics is a reference to the structure of the chips, which are formed by an array of capacitors that must constantly having to be recharged. Double Data Rate means that the traffic is two data per clock cycle. The number 2 symbolizes the set of improvements to the new standard.

Can somebody explain this mystery of why these memory pinouts don't match?

I'm looking at a stick of DDR2 RAM side-by-side with another labeled PC2-5300F. The notch on the latter looks like DDR, not DDR2. The workstation it came out of says DDR2 in the specs. Wikipedia says PC2-5300 ought to be DDR2. I'm confused.
