Etymology 1

From Arabic زِقّ (ziqq, skin bag for liquids, waterskin), from Classical Syriac ܙܩܐ (zeqqā, idem), which might be a variant of ܣܩܐ (saqqā, sack, bag). The last is cognate with Ancient Greek σάκκος (sákkos, sack, bag, sackcloth), whence also English sack and Maltese saqqu (mattress).
