Etymology 1

Compare with Maori kumi “unit of ten fathoms”, Rarotongan ʻumi, Tahitian ʻumi and Tongan ʻumi. Displaced anahulu (compare with Maori ngahuru, Tahitian ʻahuru, Tongan hongofulu, Malay puluh, Ilocano sangapulo, Tagalog sampulo ~ sampu); and kaʻau (compare with Maori tekau, Rarotongan takau and Tahitian taʻau) from the later developed quaternary counting system.
