From Λῐ́βῠς (Lĭ́bŭs) +‎ (), from the name of the Libu, a tribal people of North Africa, attested in Egyptian inscriptions of the 13th century BC as rbw

and as 𐤋𐤁𐤉 (lby) in later Punic inscriptions.
