Μωσῆς
Ancient Greek
Etymology
From the monophthongisation of the non-Attic diphthong ⟨ωυ⟩ to ⟨ω⟩ in earlier Μωυσῆς (Mōusês, disyllabic), which was likely formed under Ionic influence, from Biblical Hebrew מֹשֶׁה (mōšê). Compare the trisyllabic regularisation Μωϋσῆς (Mōüsês).
