The intervocalic /w/, found only in Corinth and absent in other Doric dialects such as Cretan as well as Mycenaean Greek 𐀡𐀮𐀅𐀃𐀚 (po-se-da-o-ne), is probably unetymological.

  • The quotations here, written in the archaic Corinthian alphabet, are not faithfully represented due to Unicode limitations. The B-shaped epsilon, which corresponds to [ε] and [η], was here encoded as ⟨Β⟩, while the traditionally-shaped one, which corresponds to [ει], was here encoded as ⟨Ε⟩. All other letters were encoded according to their value rather than their appearence.
  • The uncontracted nominative *Ποτειδάϝων (*Poteidáwōn), reconstructed by some sources, is never actually attested.
