Anatolian name, probably Luwian, from Proto-Anatolian *tr̥Hʷánts (“Anatolian storm god”), participle form of Proto-Indo-European *terh₂- (“to overcome, pass through”). Cognate with Hittite 𒅎; more at Tarḫunz.
