Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀμφιταλαντεύω (amphitalanteúō, to balance the weight of) with semantic loan from French vaciller.[1] By surface analysis, αμφι- (amfi-) +‎ ταλαντεύομαι (talantévomai).
