Etymology

Learnedly, from mediaeval Byzantine Greek ἀπολαμβάνω (apolambánō), a coinciding form from the ancient verbs ἀπολαύω (apolaúō) and ἀπολαμβάνω (apolambánō).^[1] By surface analysis, απο- (apo-, “intensified”) +‎ λαμβάνω (lamváno, “get”).
