From Proto-Indo-European *bʰéh₃g-os ~ *bʰéh₃g-es-, from *bʰeh₃g- (“to bake”), Cognate with Ancient Greek φώγω (phṓgō, “roast”), Old English bacan (whence English bake).[1][2]
