Etymology

For the suffix, compare κόραξ (kórax, crow) and σκύλαξ (skúlax, puppy). From Proto-Indo-European *gʷelbʰ- (womb), the same root of δελφύς (delphús, womb), δολφός (dolphós, womb) and δελφίς (delphís, dolphin).
