δοτήρ
Ancient Greek
Etymology
From δίδωμι (dídōmi, “I give”) + -τήρ (-tḗr, “-er”). This suffixion uses the zero grade of the verb rather than its full grade, as in δωτήρ (dōtḗr). Formations of this kind follow the usual practice, which is why δοτήρ (dotḗr) is attested more often than δωτήρ (dōtḗr).
