θυεία
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- θυείη (thueíē), θυεῖον (thueîon)
Etymology
Maybe from θύος (thúos, “burnt offering, incense”), but the concept of "vase for pounding the incense" is rather strange. According to Beekes, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *dʰuH- (“to fly about, to dash”).
