Etymology

A derivation in -άς (-ás), probably from an o-stem *κέμος (*kémos, hornless), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱem(h₂)- (hornless). Compare Proto-Germanic *hindiz (hind, doe)[1] and Lithuanian šmùlas (without horn).
