μαριεύς

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • μᾰρῐζεύς (mărĭzeús)

Etymology

Unknown. The correct form is uncertain. Perhaps connected with μαρμαίρω (marmaírō, to flash, sparkle, gleam); in this case, it would properly mean "gleaming, sparkling". See also μαρίλη (marílē, embers of charcoal).
