οὐλαί

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • ὀλαί (olaí)Attic

Etymology

The comparison with ἔλυμος (élumos, millet) and ὄλυρα (ólura, spelt) is hypothetical. In view of the gloss ὄλπα (ólpa), which Furnée connects with ὄλβος (ólbos, happiness, bliss) under an original meaning "nourishment, corn, grain", it is probably Pre-Greek.
