From πᾰρεντῐ́θημῐ (părentĭ́thēmĭ, I put in beside, mix up) +‎ -σις (-sis), from πᾰρᾰ- (pără-, beside) + ἐν (en, in) + τῐ́θημῐ (tĭ́thēmĭ, I put, place).
