Etymology

Derived from unattested adverb *πρώ (*prṓ), with locative (-i) as in ἦρι (êri); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *pró (toward, leading to). Cognate with Latin prō (for, before), Sanskrit प्रातर् (prātar, early in the morning), German früh (id).[1]
