Etymology

Presumably imitative or from a Proto-Indo-European root connected to Polish kichać, Russian чихать (čixatʹ), Lithuanian čiáudėti, Sanskrit क्षु (kṣu), Breton strevia and Latin sternuo (I sneeze).
