Etymology

From σκάζω (skázo, “burst”) / σκάω (skáo), stem σκασ- as in past tense έσκασα (éskasa), + -μός (-mós).[1] Compare to σκασίλα f (skasíla), σκάσιμο n (skásimo). The medieval σκασμός (skasmós), of different sense.
