σπιδνός

Ancient Greek

Etymology

May be connected with σπίδιος (spídios, extensive, wide) and/or (the semantically closer) Latin spissus (dense; slow, laborious).[1] Both are possibly from Proto-Indo-European *speyd-, a d-extension of the root *spey- (to expand, extend, stretch). This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
