From Proto-Indo-European *telh₂- (to bear, endure), the same root of ἔτλην (étlēn, to suffer, undergo), τελαμών (telamṓn, broad strap or band) and τάλαντον (tálanton, measuring scale, talent) + -μων (-mōn).
