Etymology
Inherited from Byzantine Greek φαρμάκιν (pharmákin), from a diminutive *φαρμάκιον (*pharmákion) of the Ancient Greek φάρμακον (phármakon, “poison”). Also see the Ancient φαρμάκιον (pharmákion) with sense "mild purgative".[1] Doublet of φάρμακο (fármako).
