From Latin anatomia, from Ancient Greek ἀνατομή (anatomḗ). Further from Ancient Greek ἀνατέμνω (anatémnō), from ἀνα- (ana-) + Ancient Greek τέμνω (témnō). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *temh₁- (whence also Proto-Slavic *tęti, Latin temnō, tondeō, and possibly tempus, templum).
