Inherited from Old East Slavic лѣпъ (lěpŭ, beautiful), from Proto-Slavic *lěpъ (beautiful). Akin to Russian лепи́ть (lepítʹ). Compare typologically Latin fōrmōsus, fōrmō (< fōrma). Also compare the second element of Greek όμορφος (ómorfos) (< Ancient Greek εὔμορφος (eúmorphos) < εὖ () + μορφή (morphḗ)) (for the first one see хоро́шенький (xoróšenʹkij), Latin bellus).
